Ep 22 - How Successful People Stay Calm - Workology

Ep 22 - How Successful People Stay Calm - Workology Welcome to the new Workology Go Podcast. In just under five minutes, we get you the HR and workplace news you need before you start your day. Get ready, get set and go with the Workology Go Podcast. Here are today’s HR and workplace news headlines from Workology Go Podcast. I’m Jessica Miller-Merrell. The Workology Go Podcast is sponsored by HSA Bank. Ep 22 How Successful People Stay Calm One of my favorite movies is a League of Their Own. I love it when Tom Hanks says to “Are you crying? Are you crying? There’s no crying. There’s no crying in baseball.” Can you believe that movie was released in 1992? Where has the time gone? The ability to manage your emotions and remain calm under pressure has a direct link to your performance. Research from the featured article from Forbes, studied million people, and we’ve found that 90% of top performers are skilled at managing their emotions in times of stress in order to remain calm and in control. I’m a very emotional person. I cry at commercials and silly shows like the Little Mermaid. No, I’m not lying. That moment where Ariel leaves her family and dad? I am a sobbing mess. I’ve cried in my own employee review when I was in corporate. I get really emotional which is why I was so drawn to this article. This article from Forbes is titled, How Successful People Stay Calm. I’ll link to the article in the transcript of this Workology Go Podcast episode. Emotions are often triggered by stress, and the Forbes article has a nice image that walks you through finding a balance between where stress and boredom and when you aren’t being swayed or managed by your emotions. We’ll include the image in the transcript of this podcast. The research from the University of Berkley found that the onset of stress and emotions actually allows the brain to grow increasing activity and memory. But there’s too much of a good thing and wild emotions and high levels of stress can hurt your health resulting in increased risk of heart disease, depression, obesity, and a decrease in your performance. Finding that sweet spot and right amount of stress to increase performance is something we should be striving for. This contradicts what I think a lot of people where they believe they should be all zen and not have any stress in our lives. Stress in moderation can drive you and your employees to perform, but that sweet spot is different for everyone. Equally important is providing our employees with resources and tools to be able to handle complex situations and stress. This week has been completely crazy for me. I had to deal with an emergency at our rental house resulting in a 12 hour round trip drive while juggling my business, my husband being away for work, my daughter who is home for summer while also getting ready for my own crazy travel schedule that’s ramping up at the end of this week. I can feel myself even talking about everything that has happened this week giving me stress which is why I am a fan of taking time to decompress. I try to meditate and practice mindfulness 15 minutes a day. I also have fell in love with float therapy. I think of it as forced meditation where I am floating in a large pod which feels like a spaceship. It’s filled with about a foot and a half of water with Epsom salt. Because of that, it makes me float and I can just glide in the water in complete darkness for an hour. It takes a while for me to get used to when I get into the pod, but I do and it’s glorious. It really helps me manage stress and keep those crazy emotions of mine in check a bit. Managing stress is a learned behavior. You aren’t just born innately being able to manage your emotions, life and stress. That’s a fact. And we need to help our employees learn, understand, identify stress, and find a solution to help them get through it. Float therapy and meditation work for me, but they might not work for you and your employees. So I’m looking to successful people to get tips, insights, and best practices on how to remain calm and professional so I can help my daughter and my team learn those good behaviors from me. The Trick to Writing a Good Resume Profile - How to Avoid the Common Misconceptions

The Trick to Writing a Good Resume Profile - How to Avoid the Common Misconceptions

A stunt to composing a decent resume profile that works is to utilize terms that are not all that normal, yet the candidate finds valuable. In an elegantly composed resume, this sort of term is generally proper, as they show the requirement for that specific worker and some information on their aptitudes. Huge numbers of these terms are in like manner jargon, however there are some that are not.

There are a few instances of regular terms that are utilized to depict ranges of abilities that are a bit much or applicable to the current task. Certainly, those are the kinds of words that won't work for a resume, since they are just giving data that the business definitely knows. There is no genuine incentive in the data, since it is as of now known. They are simply direct mail advertisements and data dumps.

<p& gt;It is smarter to stay away from this sort of term. A stunt to composing a decent resume profile is to expound on something that is current and assists with featuring the applicant's information on the activity. This could be a day by day intrigue, or something that the candidate has done by and by. The key is to make the data 'current' such that it is valuable and pertinent to the activity. Anything that is of an ongoing date or a term that is uncommon is best avoided.

An considerably increasingly normal term is the one that shows that the individual doesn't have any criminal history. This is the ideal stunt to composing a decent resume profile since it is vital for the activity, yet not a marker of an issue with the candidate. It essentially is a term that is of no worth and ought to be kept away from. This is normally done by setting off to the state open records and seeing whether there are any open charges against the person.
< p>

The most regular term is the one that includes a side interest. All things considered, this is going to come up at work than everything else. It is once in a while important to list diversions that are not pertinent, for example, 'making a scrapbook.' This ought to be kept away from on the grounds that it shows an absence of enthusiasm for the activity, and not being an employee.

One more stunt to composing a decent resume profile is to list side interests that the candidate has participated in. This is more hard to do than posting some other side interests. For example, if the candidate partakes in earthenware classes, it may not be clear that the individual has anything of significant worth to offer, as it is considered 'customary.' The secret to composing a decent resume profile is to discover interests that are significant and meaningful.

One last stunt to composing a decent resume profile is to take note of any honors or confirmations that are pertinent to the activity that the individual applies for. This would be the most clear data that is utilized. In the event that a competitor filled in as a bank employee, it might be clear that they are dependable, however the way that they realize how to check change might be a sign that they are not honest with their application. They might be an affirmed burglar, however the way that they realize how to check change might be a pointer that they are lying.

That is probably the best stunt to composing a decent resume profile. The best resume essayists know about this stunt and they use it practically every day. While it might be a ton to think about every individual representative, utilizing this stunt to composing a decent resume profile can help make the candidate sound like they have a lot to offer the business. Accordingly, the candidate can get employed, and the resume essayis t can get paid for their efforts.

8 Tips for Moms Using LinkedIn to Job Search

8 Tips for Moms Using LinkedIn to Job Search 8 Tips for Moms Using LinkedIn to Job Search 2 At the point when different mothers discover that I ran enrolling at perhaps the biggest organization in the region, and now work in ability advancement, this subject makes certain to come up. I'm the mother of three-and four-year-olds and a lifelong planner. I love occupations. I love contemplating occupations, securing individuals positions, associating individuals to employments, screening individuals in, screening individuals out-everything. I additionally realize that as an enlisting coach, I would frequently guide spotters to go searching for individuals who were reappearing the workforce. I realize that overall, mothers are an extraordinary pool for scouts to angle in: profoundly capable up-and-comers who faced a challenge on themselves and halted out for a couple of years to bring up children or care for old guardians. The universe of enrolling, being found, and finding a new line of work has changed drastically in the previous five, three, two years. Truth be told, the entire game has changed with mass appropriation of internet based life, web 2.0, and candidate following frameworks. In the event that you've settled on the decision to remain at home with your children, you might be threatened by the new universe of finding a new line of work. Dread not! Find a comfortable place to sit here at my kitchen table (simply clear off the Goldfish morsels), snatch some espresso, and overlook any accidents originating from the den. I've had discussions about utilizing LinkedIn to pursuit of employment zillions of times, and I'm here to help. A Primer for Moms Using LinkedIn to Job Search A long time back I was cited in a meeting on NPR saying that LinkedIn is the best thing to happen to selecting, ever. I despite everything accept that. As I would see it, LinkedIn replaces a great deal of the good old selecting work we used to do: organizing, perusing exchange distributions, calling individuals. LinkedIn is one major web based systems administration occasion. It very well may be important to you, yet like any 10-year-old, what it was at two isn't what it is currently. With the end goal for LinkedIn to work for you, you need to know how to it functions and how to function with it. Here are a few hints. Profile starter. In the event that you don't have a profile, make one at this point. Not certain where to begin? In the first place, make a rundown of 20 words that depict your next activity. Next, jump on LinkedIn and utilizing watchwords, look for somebody who has your next dream work. Investigate the LinkedIn profiles that surface. Perceive how individuals in your proposed profession advertise themselves, depict their work and chronicles. By doing this, you not just observe profiles you can display yours after, yet you additionally observe which profiles come up at the top when you utilize explicit watchwords. Make sure to adopt the thought process of an enrollment specialist when you are composing your profile. The watchwords you wrote down to locate your model profiles are additionally the ones that ought to be in your profile! This carries me to my next point about utilizing LinkedIn to quest for new employment… Catchphrase stacking. I've been discussing watchword stacking for a considerable length of time, and am persuaded that I begat the adage as well as the system also, so obviously I think this is probably the best guidance around. After you have entered your experience and training onto your LinkedIn profile, check for catchphrases. At the point when a selection representative is looking LinkedIn profiles, s/he utilizes watchwords to discover likely matches. In any case, not all words identified with your new position may exist naturally as far as you can tell portrayals. Here's the place catchphrase stacking comes in. Think about all the words that a scout may use to discover somebody for the particular job you need. Not certain your rundown is a decent one? Investigate a portion of the positions recorded on LinkedIn, and make a note of words you see nearer to the highest point of the portrayal or those in different depictions. You are searching for words about explicit abilities, philosophies, programming bundles, and so forth. You're not searching for extrovert or great relational abilities. A selection representative is never under any circumstance going to look on those words. At the point when you've gotten a rundown of 20 or so words that don't as of now show up in your resume, make a catchphrases segment in your profile. A few people do this in the synopsis and some do it in one of the experience segments. To these 20 words, additionally include the names of organizations that utilize individuals working in your ideal field. Keep in mind, as a scout, I will regularly first hope to equal organizations for ability. While I may inquiry ebb and flow boss (one of the pursuit classes accessible), I'm additionally similarly prone to utilize the organization's name as a free-form search term. Try not to have a weak expert feature or rundown. Numerous individuals tragically have their expert feature be their present place of employment title. On the off chance that you've been out of the workforce for some time, Mother of two children and two felines won't cut it. Indeed, regardless of whether you are presently utilized, don't squander this space on your title. Consolidating watchwords or titles from your field, describe yourself. For instance, Mechanical building proficient with an energy for machine structure or CPA with solid information on SOX and GAAP. Numerous individuals utilize their expert features to promote that they are experiencing significant change or searching for a change. I myself have never utilized that as a hunt term, yet since I'm contemplating it, that may be a decent system for me when I'm looking for mothers reemerging the workforce. Recall that your LinkedIn profile isn't your resume. The LinkedIn profile isn't your resume. In contrast to your resume, you don't need to list each. single. work you've at any point had. You don't need to utilize uninvolved voice. You don't need to be so formal. Your profile can show your character. Let me rethink that: it SHOULD show your character. After I discover a lot of profiles through catchphrases, I'll check the profiles searching for applicants I can charm to my occupations. In any case, I will say that I am more pulled in to profiles that are proficient however not stodgy and exhausting. Take a gander at your protection settings and comprehend what they are. An incredible aspect regarding LinkedIn is that you can kill and on different components that sway your accessibility. I love that settings are so natural to discover (Accounts Settings Privacy Settings) thus straightforward. You'll need to settle on certain choices about how much data you need to be open. Contemplate what you need out there and accessible, on LinkedIn, yet in the bigger the internet world-there's no correct response for everybody. You need to set the levels where it works for you. I show just my experience, feature, synopsis, and picture. You might need to show pretty much. To LION or not to LION? That is the issue. One of the basic choices you should make about your profile is in the event that you will be a LinkedIn Open Networker (get it-LION). It is safe to say that you will interface with each and every individual who needs to associate with you? Will you associate with individuals you don't have a clue? Your child's music instructor? The father who sits close to you at b-ball games? The lady you met at that birthday celebration that one time? Methods of reasoning on this contrast and you truly need to consider it. On one hand, the more individuals you have associations with, the simpler it is for enrollment specialists to discover you. Then again, probably the best utilization of LinkedIn is to go along suggestions and presentations through your system. OK be open to having somebody in your system you couldn't or would not suggest? It's up to you and you can change your settings whenever. See which one feels better to you and go with that for some time. LinkedIn bunches get into them. Probably the best procedure for being found is to join LinkedIn gatherings. We've heard this for quite a long time and years. LinkedIn has made it a lot simpler to have a place with and take an interest in proficient gatherings. You are allowed to join 50 gatherings, and I'd recommend you capitalize on it. Is it true that you are a modern creator? Search for LinkedIn bunches about modern plan. Go along with them and take part. Remark on online journals, recommend postings, answer addresses posted there. At the point when I search for up-and-comers, I regularly go FIRST to gatherings to discover individuals keen on the field. Gatherings may likewise have employments (under occupation conversations) that are not promoted anyplace else. Once more, when you join a gathering, ensure you peruse and comprehend the settings-it's significant regarding who can get in touch with you. The mother segment. This is the issue that I get waaaaaaay toward the finish of any discussion on this subject. A few people will ask me in the event that they ought to clarify for what good reason they've been out of the commercial center/have a hole as far as they can tell/aren't working at this point. Others feel emphatically that the work they've done as a volunteer, trustee, room mother, or PTO president is deserving of notice. I will in general exhort that you not state explicitly on your LinkedIn profile that you've been at home bringing up your children for as far back as quite a long while. It's not anyone's issue to worry about what you have been doing, and it isn't generally applicable to your capacity to carry out a responsibility. Time and on numerous occasions, I hear individuals state that their work doesn't tally, since it wasn't paid/full-time/in corporate America. Try not to undercut your volunteer encounters on the off chance that you have contributed in a significant and continued manner. Aptitudes are sharpened in each position-volunteer or not. On the off chance that you've created aptitudes while being out of the customary workforce, by all methods remember them for your experience segment. As a mother, I anticipate it. As an enrollment specialist, I search for it. I realize that it is so difficult to the run the Little League or the Girl Scout treat deal or the show club. I need YOU to esteem it enough to place it in your profile. Try not to make the selection representative supposition at the abilities show them out simply like some other activity. I did, be that as it may, see a SAHM who recorded her mother work on her resume and included things like sustenance arranging and conveyance and instruc tive advancement under her undertakings. I would not prompt that. By any stretch of the imagination. Dive in and begin utilizing LinkedIn to pursuit of employment. Reemerging the workforce in the wake of being home can be frightening. All things considered, not CAN BE alarming, IS unnerving. The incredible
